According to Apple here are some things we can expect to see in the release of the iPad 2nd Generation:
A5 Dual Core chip
iPad Smart Cover
Diluent
Lighter
Dual cameras
HD Video
Battery life 10 hours
Starting bid $ 499
Let’s review some of the new features:
A5 Dual Core Chip -
The iPad 1st Generation is fast and responsive. I was amazed at how agile and responsive touch interface responded to input. If the promise of twice as fast with the new dual-core chips A5, this iPad 2nd Generation will be a screamer! This will make multitasking between applications easier and faster to load.
I’ve never seen a tablet PC as a gaming platform (and still do not), but the video acceleration 2nd Generation on the iPad is supposed to be 9x faster! This means that video games and video should work without clipping, tearing or suffocation during rendering.
10 Hour Battery
One word – WOW … Not only Apple has managed to reduce the excessive weight of all the iPad second generation, but were able to increase the battery life too. Not sure how they do it, and I do not really care – but this is just one more reason I believe that the investment is worth it.
TWO CAMERAS – FINALLY!
A friend of mine wanted iPad Skype on the first generation, but we did not know that the door of the camera (that does not exist in the 1st generation iPad, but no camera is present) was empty. We loaded and Skype …. Nothing. It was an experiment, but we were still deflated. Thus, the iPad has the second-generation camera available back-to-back and comes with a package of video called FaceTime. And get this – it’s HD. I can honestly say that I can see many uses for this in my profession.
FaceTime -
Think video chat with steroids. You can now make video calls from the second generation to the next iPad iPad, a 4 iPhone, the iPod touch or a desktop machine to your Mac via Wi-Fi. You can also take snapshots and PhotoBooth use to edit, manage, or upload your favorite Web 2.0 site for sharing.
SmartCover -
If I had any complaints with the iPad first generation must be the lack of a good REALLY COVER. Sure, there are some covers out there that come close to being the right one for me … but the price was always prohibitive factor. Apple has acknowledged the need for consumers to protect their investments and has developed a fashion (multiple colors) yet protective cover that fits your iPad perfectly. Open the lid and the iPad wakes up, close the lid and the iPad goes to sleep. It turns into a stall and is available in 10 different colors.

Three new additions that will come to enjoy is the wireless HDTV and wireless speakers. Yup – streaming wirelessly. Video Mirror allows us to insert an adapter Apple Digital AV or VGA adapter into an HDTV or projector. Your audience will see what you see. I’m going to love this when I do my presentations! Finally AirPrint is the wireless printing capabilities. I try not to use hard-copy, as far as possible, but if you really need to do so, it is.
In summary, I’m impressed. The screen size is a bit ‘smaller, but if this is your first iPad then you will not notice the difference because there is nothing to compare to it. Rumor Has It iPad that the third generation is in active development, but a release date is yet to be reported. What to do? Wait for the third release gen, or buy now and kick yourself for buying too early? This is a question that only we as individuals can solve. In both cases it will be money well spent.
